Audra Call, Third Grade Teacher
acall@odysseycharter.net
Hi! My name is Audra Call and this is my third year as
a 3rd grade teacher at Odyssey Charter School. Along with
teaching, I will also be teaming up with Brooke Garrett (Theobald) as a Core
Knowledge Coordinator to help the school implement a rich curriculum and to
become an official Core Knowledge School.
I grew up in Sacramento, California where I received my
Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education at California State University of
Sacramento. My two beautiful daughters and I moved to Utah three and a half
years ago where I completed my Master's degree in Elementary Education and
received my teaching license. I recently remarried a wonderful man last
October, hence the name change. I enjoy scrap booking, reading, hiking,
dancing, playing games, spending time with my family and of course
teaching. English, reading and history were my favorite subjects in
school. My favorite authors are Ernest Hemingway and Gerald Lund. Mexican
is my favorite food and I will eat anything that has peanut butter in it.
Peanut butter is practically a food group in and of itself (ha ha).
I became interested in teaching young children when I
was a nanny and had the responsibility of volunteering in the children's
classes. I realized how much I enjoyed watching children learn and
succeed. I decided I wanted to be a part of that process. Learning is a
journey and I want to help children reach their highest potential in a safe
and fun learning environment. One of the most important aspects I learned
while receiving my college education was that you cannot change anyone else,
you can only change yourself. That is my policy as a teacher. My student's
success depends upon my ability to teach. If my way of teaching does not
facilitate the students learning, then it is I who must change. Teaching is
also journey and I hope to continue to learn and improve as each year comes
and goes.
