Doug Freeman, Seventh Grade Teacher

dfreeman@odysseycharter.net

I love to teach and being at Odyssey! I never thought I would be teaching 7th and 8th grade but here I am. I love the kids I teach and I'm humbled by the responsibility I have to assist them in their academic journey. I am also grateful for what the students are teaching me. I have a BS in Psychology from BYU and certification in Conflict Resolution/Mediation from the U of U. I am a personal performance/life coach specializing in emotional healing. Although born in Colorado and a traveling army brat, I have lived most of my life in American Fork where I currently reside. I am the blessed father of 4 daughters, 3 of whom attend Odyssey.

I have a great love of learning and sharing what I know. I was blessed to live abroad as a child and experience other cultures and languages. As a result, my favorite thing to do is travel and immerse myself in other cultures as much as I can. Some of my favorite places on earth are the Bavarian Alps, the Temple of Poseidon and Santorini in Greece, Tuscany, the Sydney Opera House, Stonehenge, the Temple of the Sun in Mexico, and El Caminito watching sidewalk tango dancers in Buenos Aires (even though I got mugged in that city). So, I am especially excited to go with the 8th grade students to Greece in the Spring!

I love world history, art, music, human physiology, energy psychology, and the healing arts. I play the piano, speak Spanish, read 3 or 4 books at a time and play racquetball whenever I can find a partner. I love movies! My favorites are Amadeus, A Man for All Seasons, Lord of the Rings, most anything sci-fi or fantasy, and a fair amount of comedies (even the romantic ones). My favorite authors are Frank Herbert, Orson Scott Card, Terry Brooks, Carol Tuttle, and Don Miguel Ruiz. I absolutely love food - most anything in the Mexican, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Greek, German, or Middle Eastern flavors. Specifically, I love to eat sushi, deep dish pizza, a good steak, and crab/lobster/shrimp. I follow that up with cheesecake, a gooey, warm cinnamon roll, a thick milkshake, or Cold Stone ice cream (cake batter with cookie dough).
