Danette Moea'i, Third Grade Teacher

dmoeai@odysseycharter.net
I am very excited to return to Odyssey for another
great year. I am even more excited to be teaching 3rd grade full
time this year.
I am finishing up my degree at the Utah Valley
University this spring. I have been in classes all summer and I cannot wait
to implement some of what I have learned this summer in my classroom this
year. Science rocks, especially astronomy!
I am a native of Monticello, Utah, yet I moved to
Washington State and Idaho for the past 14 years. My loving husband Tulao
and our 4 children: Makenzie 15, Austin 12, Gabrielle 10 and Coleman 2, are
very happy to be closer to both our families.
I decided to be a teacher over 20 years ago, even
though my path to obtaining my teaching degree has been interrupted by
various reasons. I have always wanted to teach and give back what my
teachers and coaches gave to me...the tools to learn and obtain knowledge to
better myself to be whatever I dreamed to be. I worked as the Title 1
paraprofessional in Cottonwood, ID and really enjoyed working with students
that struggle with math and reading. I am a firm believer that there is
more than one way to learn and to reach a student. I love the opportunity
to see a student's eyes light up when something new is seen or understood.
I have always had a favorite quote "To be good is
not enough, when you dream of being great!" Teaching gives me the
opportunity to give each student the help to not only be good students, but
to help them be great students!
My favorite place that I have traveled is Australia and New Zealand where I
played basketball for the USA. I am looking forward to the day that my
family can travel to my husband's native land of Samoa.
I have several favorite authors. A few of them are: J.K. Rowling, Mercer
Mayer, Sharon Creech, Pam Munoz Ryan, Stephanie Meyer and Virginia Sorensen.
My favorite foods are chocolate and sea food (especially shrimp & crab).
My hobbies include volleyball (played at the U of U many moons ago and have
recently taken on the job of American Fork High School Head Volleyball
coach. I also enjoy softball, horses, crocheting, reading and spending as
much time as possible with my husband, kids, and our families.
