Jaime Watkins, Jr High
Hello! My name is Jaime Watkins. I am so excited to be teaching at Odyssey Charter School this year! I have known since first grade that I would one day be a teacher (my poor younger brothers and sister had to listen to me "teach" in my "classroom" when I'd come home from school every day). My favorite subjects have always been English and Art, so I feel very lucky to be teaching both of these subjects this year! I was born and raised in Los Angeles, and then moved to San Diego at the end of Junior High School. From there I went to the University of Utah, where I worked toward my undergraduate degree in English Teaching and Soccer Coaching. After two years in Salt Lake, I moved to Provo where I attended Brigham Young University for the remainder of my undergrad studies. I graduated from BYU in December 2006 with an English degree and a license to teach English in grades 6-12. Throughout my college years, I've had the great privilege to work in multiple schools around this area, including those within the Provo, Nebo, and Jordan School Districts. I currently have family scattered all over the place right now: my parents, two younger brothers, and younger sister live in San Diego; my older brother, his wife, and their baby daughter live in Escondido, California; my older sister and her husband live in Hawai'i, though they spend little time there because they are both on active duty in the U.S. Navy (so they get to travel all over the world, including Hong Kong, Iraq, Afghanistan, Australia, and India); I have two younger brothers who are serving proselyting missions-one in Pennsylvania, and one in Taiwan; and I live in Provo with my husband, Thomas. We just got married this summer on July 10th...the happiest day of my life! When I have spare time, I love going out on dates with Tom and talking on the phone with my family back in San Diego. One of my favorite things to do is to READ!!! I proudly boast that I read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in 13 hours. Some of my other favorite books include Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, Mansfield Park by Jane Austen, Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, The Giver by Lois Lowry, The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, and To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. I also love watching movies, like "The Scarlet Pimpernel," "Pride & Prejudice," (the BBC version, of course!) "The Count of Monte Cristo," "The Phantom of the Opera," and "Beauty and the Beast." Other things I enjoy doing are playing soccer, playing the piano, baking and making desserts (yummy!), riding roller coasters (long live Magic Mountain!), and watching moonless, starry skies. So...that's just a little (actually, it's kind of a lot!) about me. I can't wait to get to know you and your parents during our time together in the Junior High. This is going to be a terrific year at Odyssey! See you in class!
