Paul Youngberg, Second Grade Teacher
pyoungberg@odysseycharter.net
First off, I never expected to teach. I grew up in
Sacramento, attended Casa Roble High School, (Mrs. Call's Alma Mater,) and
considered law as my goal. I received a Bachelor of Arts from UC Berkeley,
where I majored in Political Science. I also studied Medieval history, sign
making and protest marching (they were requirements.) After college, I
worked in various fields, from retail sales to restaurants. I never felt
satisfied, though.
My wife and I finally moved to Utah for a change of
scenery, and I started working for Sundance as a Tree Room server. I
decided that since I was off during the day, I might have fun substitute
teaching. I came to Odyssey, was hired as a full-time instructor,
and never looked back. When an opportunity opened up in the Second Grade, I
knew that I had found my career.
I'm a big foodie and love nice restaurants, but am just
as comfortable grabbing a corn dog from a mom-and-pop burger stand. Coming
from California, I love sushi, good (or bad) Mexican, Thai, Ethiopian,
Indian, and the list keeps going. I'm still a political junkie, volunteer
for campaigns when I can, and love a good argument. Movies are a particular
passion for my wife and I, and we enjoy laughing at a terrible flick as much
as crying over great one. Now that I'm in Utah, I suppose I should learn to
snowboard....
