Employment

"We believe that little else is as important as effectively educating our children. Student, parent, and educator are all accountable for a child’s success and learning." (Odyssey Mission & Philosophy).

A key component to the success of Odyssey Charter School—today and into the future—is to hire qualified educators who share our mission, philosophy and vision of a classical education. OCS seeks an educational staff that values academic improvement, personifies scholastic achievement, and models teachability and synergy. We need educators who will inspire children to embark on their individual odyssey with the foundation of knowledge and critical thinking skills necessary to enjoy being independent learners for life.

Career Opportunities

OCS is currently hiring for the following positions:

CEO/Director

Jan 25-29, 2010.

STARTING DATE:       Employment to start 1 July 2010, preparatory for Fall semester 2010.

CONTACT:                  Board of Trustees via Peter Rehm:  OdysseyCharterJobs@gmail.com.

SALARY RANGE:             $72,000 to $100,000+ annually, depending on experience.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Masters of Education in Educational Leadership or equivalent. We are looking for someone who has proven themselves with administrative educational experience in a charter school, someone who is up to the challenge of leading our unique school to the top 10%, someone who won't be gravitating to the methods, assumptions and procedures of traditional public schools, someone who is filled with excitement and loves to see children learn. We are looking for a dynamic, internally-driven leader who is committed to uphold the foundations of the school’s charter. The most important qualities are a shared vision coupled with talent, skill and energy in communicating and implementing that vision.

SCHOOL DESCRIPTION:

Odyssey Charter School is a K-8 public charter school that opened in Fall 2005. Our building was designed specifically for our methods of education.  In addition to normal classrooms, it has many break-out rooms suitable for teaching core subjects in ability groupings of about 8 to 12 children. The school's emphasis is on providing a classical education, as outlined in The Well-Trained Mind by Jesse Wise and Susan Wise Bauer. Odyssey Charter School is an official Core Knowledge School and Visitation Site; the curriculum includes Core Knowledge, direct instruction, Saxon Math, Reading Mastery, Shurley English, Kodaly Music and Latin. The school is fully-staffed with excellent professionals, integrally supported by highly-involved parents, and governed by the Board of Trustees (which has adopted the Policy Governance® model).

JOB DESCRIPTION:

*CEO of the school, reporting directly to the Board of Trustees.
*Achieve stated ends (outcomes) determined by the board, while staying within specific stated executive limitations, according to the Policy Governance® model of running a school. This means clearly-stated objectives and criteria for success and failure, along with freedom to act within reasonable, clearly-defined boundaries.
*Proven ability to work well with a wide variety of people – adults and children.
*Ensure that each student has every opportunity to perform at his or her potential.
*When necessary, hire teachers who share our vision, love to teach and love the children.
*Train and work with teachers and staff; provide them with opportunities for career development.
*Ability and desire to welcome and work with parents; resolve variety of disputes when necessary.
*Oversee school finances and school's business manager.
*Find and obtain additional funding to help accomplish the school's stated objectives.

Application Process

Applicants for the CEO/Director position may submit their resume with a completed application (see link below) in hard copy to the school office or email to OdysseyCharterJobs@gmail.com.  Please also include a statement (a few paragraphs) of your personal philosophy of education and the “Employment Survey” (see link below).

All applicants are encouraged to read the following links to determine whether or not they can support the OCS philosophy and culture:
