Amy Carr, Teacher Development

My name is Amy Carr and I am over teacher development at Odyssey Charter School. Our family began attending Odyssey Charter School four years ago when our oldest child started kindergarten. This year all 3 of our children will be in school. Our youngest is finally starting kindergarten and is thrilled to finally be “attending” Odyssey instead of just “volunteering”.

Our family’s experience at Odyssey has been wonderful!  I have been afforded opportunities and experiences that have been very personally and professionally rewarding. I helped set up the library, have volunteered in my children’s classrooms as an art teacher, CET coordinator/volunteer, room parent, “read aloud” lady (the official term given by a first grader last year) and have most recently worked as the parent volunteer coordinator with Melanie LaFranca.

My career in education officially began when I was 3 years old and given a class of stuffed animals to teach. They were a rowdy bunch but we made it through. From that time until 8th grade (when I realized it was a little awkward to still be playing school by myself in the basement), I have had a classroom set up in every basement of every house I lived in. I found invisible children were much more disciplined than my siblings. I have always known what I wanted to do when I grew up. I love teaching!

I graduated from BYU with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. After working for several years in Provo School District, I went back to BYU to receive my master’s degree in Administration. I did an administrative internship at Provost Elementary and Dixon Middle School before graduating and having my second child. Since that time, I have been a stay-at-home mom full-time and worked part- time at Provo and American Fork public libraries as the “story lady” for the toddler and preschool programs. I feel blessed to have been involved in so many projects and experiences that I truly love and feel passionate about.

When I use to have spare time, I loved reading, writing, traveling, and eating cupcakes. Now I love naps! I have lived in both Sweden & Denmark and speak awkward Danish. My husband and I love to travel and have adventures. Last year we took that whole family to Europe and got stranded for an extra 2 weeks because of a volcano. Life is never boring but always full of adventure.
