Matt Otterstrom, 4th Grade Teacher

I was born in California and was raised in the Salt Lake City area most of my life. Education is something I have a passion for (just ask my mother). I have enjoyed music all my life and playing the tuba, trombone, and trumpet is relaxing to do. I have spent years playing in various bands or symphonies. I attended SLCC and the U of U, and am finishing my degree at the University of Phoenix. I was an Elementary School Band Teacher for the past four years, while I have been finishing my Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education, at the University of Phoenix.

I discovered a love for music when I became a participant in band. Being a participant in band took me through junior high and high school. During junior high and high school, I competed in a variety of performances including parades during the summer months etc. After high school, I joined the U of U Marching Band and moved on to join other band and symphonies. A career in teaching seemed like a logical conclusion combined with my love of music and my enjoyment in working with children.

I have been married for four years and she is the most loving, helpful, beautiful, understanding partner that could be by my side. My wife and I decided to become Foster Parents, so that we can continue reaching out to help as many children as we possible can. Helping and teaching others, where needed, is just a big part of my life.
