Hi! My name is Melanie Lafranca and I have been a volunteer at Odyssey Charter school since the first year it opened. I have enjoyed helping with projects at the school like painting the auditorium and putting up the artwork timeline. My husband wins the good sport award for always showing up to help and supporting me in these activities. I also enjoy volunteering in my children’s classrooms and have been very impressed with the teachers here.
The first year the school opened I was the Parent Volunteer Coordinator, which was the “Defender of the Dark Arts” position because nobody wanted to do it. I really enjoy a challenge and this year I am again looking forward to helping the volunteer program be successful at the school. The volunteers I have worked with have been outstanding!
I grew up mostly in Toronto, Ontario and then in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. My parents and grandparents have always been heavily involved in education and I have a deep appreciation for the importance of teaching and of learning. I have a BA in Communications from B.Y.U. specializing in Public Relations. I worked at a film production company for three years and was a manager of over 100 people until my daughter was born. I took a “break” (from getting paid – not from working J) for 12 years and now I look forward to working in the school where my daughter and my son love to learn.
My favorite things to do include spending time with my family and traveling. I love to read a good book. I love good music. Peanut M&M’s are my weakness. I am looking forward to a great year at Odyssey! |
