Attention Parents of Preschoolers!

Odyssey Preschool will be accepting new enrollment for the 2008/2009 school year. Early Bird Registration begins Tuesday, February 19th. Registration is a $50 non-refundable enrollment fee. Tours will be available on Friday, February 1, 8 , and 15th from 9-10 a.m. For information about Odyssey Preschool, pick up an information flyer at the OCS front desk.

Mission

The mission of Odyssey Preschool is to provide a safe and nurturing environment where young children can begin their educational journey at an earlier age.

Curriculum

Odyssey Preschool will offer Core Knowledge Preschool as the main program for instruction.  This program is academic based and compliments the Core Knowledge Sequence used in many local charter schools.

The Core Knowledge Preschool Sequence starts with the premise that children are always "ready to learn."  Preschoolers build new knowledge and skills based on what they have already learned.  The Core Knowledge Preschool Sequence provides the stepping stones needed for young children to develop higher levels of understanding and competence.  The Preschool Sequence contains a rich language environment, a specific sequence of skills and knowledge, and an atmosphere of learning.

The content of the Preschool Sequence is:

  • Solid- It is a comprehensive preschool curriculum that addresses all facets of early childhood development.

  • Specific- It identifies explicit skills and knowledge that are critical to a child's development, in terms of "readiness to learn."

  • Sequenced- It presents skills and knowledge that progress from very basic to more challenging, so that children build new knowledge and skills based upon what they have already learned.

  • Shared- It represents shared knowledge.  Only by explicitly specifying the competencies and knowledge that all children should share can we ensure access to an excellent and fair education for all.

Class Size & Schedule:

Odyssey Preschool will allow 12 students per class.  The preschool will follow the same time schedule as Odyssey Charter School's Kindergarten for parents' convenience.  The following is a list of classes currently being offered for the school year.

Morning Sessions (AM Preschool)

  • MF 8:15-11:15 a.m. & W 8:15-10:15 a.m.
  • TTH 8:15-11:15 a.m.

    Afternoon Sessions (PM Preschool)

  • MF 12:15-3:15 p.m. & W 11:15-1:15 p.m.
  • TTH 12:15-3:15 p.m.


    Note: Spaces are limited and may be full in the classroom requested.

    Tuition & Fees:

    All applicants will be charged a $50.00 non-refundable enrollment fee.  Enrollment is based upon a first come first serve basis.   An Intent to Enroll form must be accompanied with the enrollment fee.

    If paying for the full year, tuition is due August 1, 2007
    If paying on a monthly basis, tuition is due the first of each month beginning August 1, 2007, through May 2008. 

    If tuition is not received the First day of August, your student may be withdrawn. 
    A $10 late fee will be charged to all tuition that is received after the 7th of each month. 

    There are no discounts for multiple students or multiple classes.

    General Information:

    There will be a nondiscriminatory open enrollment.  The program will not "only" allow parents at OCS to enroll their preschool age students, but also will allow parents with preschool age students outside of the school.

    Enrollment in Odyssey Preschool does not mean automatic enrollment in Kindergarten at Odyssey Charter School.  The two schools are completely separate.

    Students must be 3 years old by September 1st and potty trained to be allowed into the preschool.  There is no diaper changing facility and teachers will not be expected to change diapers.  There will be no exceptions.

    Students will be of mixed ages in classes to fit parents needs (ages 3-5 years old in any given class).  Students may attend up to 2 years before starting Kindergarten.

    Assessments/Developmental Conferences:

    Students will be assessed three times per school year.  The preschool teachers will hold the first Developmental Conference during the first part of August in order to assess each preschooler.  This assessment is vital to the Core Knowledge Preschool Sequence.  This tool allows the teacher to enhance the monthly curriculum based upon the students needs in each class.  Please, be sure to attend this important assessment. 

    Mid-year Assessments will be performed in January/February.  A mid-year Developmental Conference will be held during February.  This is a great chance to find out how your preschooler is developing. 

    End of the year assessments will be performed by May.  Year-end assessments will be sent home showing how your preschooler has developed throughout the school year.  A conference may be scheduled if needed.

    Volunteering:

    Odyssey Preschool asks for parents and the community to help support the preschool with donations of any kind.  Volunteering at the preschool is an important part of the preschools' success.  Volunteering in the classroom and assisting the preschool is encouraged and a vital component to the preschool.
