Odyssey Charter School Upper Grades Mission: The Odyssey Charter School Upper Grades team is dedicated to inspiring excellence in all students, preparing them academically, personally and physically for all future endeavors.
Odyssey Upper Grades follow a middle school model. This allows students in 6th, 7th and 8th grades to receive instruction in their required courses, taught by teachers who are specialists in their fields. Each student follows an individualized schedule that includes leveled Language Arts, Math and Latin. Our curriculum covers Utah State requirements and is enhanced by Core Knowledge and ECRI. Our daily schedule includes eight 45-minute periods on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Built into the schedule is a 15-minute Study Skills/ Advisement period, and a 10-minute planner period where teachers check that students are recording homework assignments. The Wednesday schedule allows students to participate in elective classes that give them exposure to classes outside the academic requirements. These classes are part of the grading system, which means that students receive credit for attending, participating and completing assignments. Wednesday also includes an hour of study hall. This allows students to catch up missing assignments, or to get help from teachers in areas that they are struggling. We have a very motivated and professional Upper Grades team that is dedicated to student success. For more information on our staff, see the Teachers & Staff Page. As a culmination of the Odyssey journey, 8th graders have an opportunity to participate in an amazing trip. For more information on the 8th grade trip, visit the 8th Grade Trip Page. |
