Music Teacher

Room 227

I am the Music Teacher at Odyssey. I began working at Odyssey in 2009, following two years in the Provo School District. I have a Bachelor of Music degree from BYU, an Elementary Education teaching license with Music Endorsement, and I have completed all 3 levels of Kodaly Certification through the Intermuse Academy at BYU, making me a Kodaly Certified Music Educator. I love teaching Music for many reasons, including the historical and cultural connections, the social and emotion growth opportunities, and the opportunities to help students create beautiful music with the challenge to ever increase their artistry. I teach General Music classes at Odyssey for Kindergarten through 6th grade, with a sequential curriculum in which skills and knowledge build from year to year as students move through the program. 5th Graders receive instruction in recorders and 6th Graders receive instruction in ukulele. I also instruct an extracurricular choir for students in 4th-6th grade.

My past musical experiences include instrumental performances as a trumpet player in various bands and orchestras in high school and college, as well as participation in 2 drum and bugle corps. I've been involved with multiple choirs as well. Outside my teaching days, I stay busy as a mom and competitive Irish Dancer, competing locally, regionally, and nationally as I am able. I am also a certified scuba diver, and like to make it out into the ocean for diving at least once each summer.
