Character Development at Odyssey Charter School

Developing Leaders of Character

At Odyssey Charter School, we believe education is about far more than academics. Our mission is to develop students who not only achieve at high levels but also become kind, responsible, and trustworthy members of their families, school, and community.

Character development is intentionally woven into every part of the school day. Through classroom instruction, school-wide expectations, meaningful relationships, and opportunities to serve and lead, students learn the habits and values that prepare them for lifelong success.

Our S.A.I.L. Expectations

Our school culture is built around S.A.I.L., a framework that guides how we learn, interact, and grow together.

S – Self-Control

Students learn to manage their emotions, make thoughtful choices, persevere through challenges, and demonstrate self-discipline in both academic and social settings.

A – Accountability

We encourage students to take ownership of their actions, complete their responsibilities, learn from mistakes, and strive to do their personal best each day.

I – Integrity

Integrity means choosing to do what is right—even when no one is watching. Students practice honesty, fairness, responsibility, and ethical decision-making in every aspect of school life.

L – Loyalty & Respect

We foster a community where students treat others with kindness, value different perspectives, care for school property, and demonstrate respect for themselves, their classmates, teachers, and the community.

Character in Action

Character education at Odyssey goes beyond posters on the wall—it is lived every day.

Students have opportunities to:

  • Practice leadership within their classrooms and throughout the school.
  • Set personal and academic goals.
  • Build positive relationships with peers and adults.
  • Resolve conflicts respectfully and responsibly.
  • Celebrate acts of kindness, integrity, and citizenship.
  • Learn from mistakes through reflection and restoration.

Teachers intentionally model these behaviors and create classroom environments where students feel safe, valued, and challenged to become their very best.

Preparing Students for Life

Our goal is not simply to graduate knowledgeable students—we strive to develop compassionate leaders, critical thinkers, and responsible citizens who will positively influence the world around them.

When students leave Odyssey, we hope they carry with them more than academic knowledge. We hope they leave with strong character, confidence, resilience, and the desire to continue serving, achieving, innovating, and leading wherever their journey takes them.
